K Shanker [1971/BT/ME], MD, Director- in-charge of Onshore Business for the integrated Technip

Mr. K. Shanker is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Soon after graduation, he joined the Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Limited (SPIC) as a trainee in the first batch of their Engineering Management Training Programme. At SPIC, he was associated in the erection, start-up and maintenance of SPIC’s Fertilizer Complex at Tuticorin which was at that time considered to be the largest in South East Asia. After the Complex had been stabilized, he was posted at Chennai to start the Engineering Division of SPIC and was instrumental in all the various project expansions of SPIC in the field of Fertilizers, Pharmaceuticals, Petrochemical and Fine Chemicals both in India and abroad. As the Executive Director of SPIC’s Engineering Division, he was responsible for forging an alliance with the Technip Group and forming Technip India Limited, a Joint Venture Company between Technip Italy and SPIC. He was the Managing Director of Technip India Limited, a Subsidiary Company of the Technip Group, engaged in Engineering activities in the Oil and Gas Industry in India, Middle East, Europe and USA. He was directly responsible in building the necessary expertise and resources of the Company to make it today one of the main Design Engineering Centres of the Technip Group worldwide as well as the only Leverage Production Centre for the Dow Chemical Company, USA. Based on the expertise gathered over the years, he is well versed in executing projects for large process plants designed to International Standards in different parts of the world.

A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a Member of Technip’s Global Engineering and Construction Committee, Mr Shanker has had over the years the opportunity of interacting with leading companies in the Oil and Gas Industry. Apart from his professional activities, Mr Shanker is actively involved in social service and sporting activities in Chennai. He played an active role in the Jaycee movement and was the President of Coromandel Jaycees. And in the sporting arena, he was responsible for the design and installation of the Floodlights and the initial Video Screen at the MAC cricket stadium in Chennai.

From April 2012, he has moved up to the Country Management of Technip in India and is at present Director incharge of Onshore Business for the integrated Technip Companies in India and oversees all its business activities. He is also on the Boards of Technip’s Companies in India as a Whole Time Director in Technip India at Chennai and a Director in Technip KTI in New Delhi. He is also an Executive Committee Member in The Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
